Things aren't always as they appear

February 19, 2016

Have you ever looked at something and knew things weren't as they appeared but your brain was lagging a bit behind your sight? Came home from a lovely vacation and opened the fridge to see if there was anything to eat besides pickled peppers. It didn't register right away and then as my brain caught up I realized that while we were away there had been an invasion of googley eyes. As the awareness dawned my eyes were opened to their presence in very peculiar places; the bathroom faucet, bedroom lamps, garbage cans, and family photos, was nothing sacred?!

While I giggle I realize that there is a great application here for events, family, life.  Things aren't always as they appear.  People react to situations based on their own preconceived notions, life circumstances, expectations and insecurities.  Nothing tests this more than a big event. A large event or wedding can stress even the most laid back individual.  When faced with a disturbed guest it's wise to see if you can find out what lies behind the googley eyes, get to the truth of what is going on inside the individual.  It could be a frustration or a tangible need that can be met, but more than likely it is just a misunderstanding.  Let me interject here that this is where an Event Manager plays a key role.  A good manager can approach the situation without the interference of emotion and work to help calm the situation or rectify the problem.

So what does this thought have to do with my fridge? A bottle staring at me like a being from some food planet when really it is just my hot sauce with googley eyes stuck on it.  You might look at a frustrated guest and think that they are being difficult when really it's just that they bought the wrong size of pantyhose and are now uncomfortable.  Look beyond the google eyes and get to what's on the inside.  This is getting deep.  And the inspiration for this post?  My loving, pranking son. Thanks buddy.
